Episode 15 with Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson ‘Hope Is Courage and Taking Action Together

On this episode, the fireside chat finale, Dr. Jane Goodall chats with someone very special, who shares in Jane’s spirit and drive to create a better world for all – Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. Dr. Johnson is a marine biologist, policy expert, author, as well as founder of Urban Ocean Lab and co-author of the Blue New Deal. Johnson also co-created and co-hosts the podcast, ‘How to Save a Planet’, and is the co-editor of the successful book and project ‘All We Can Save.’ Though Ayana first fell in love with the natural world under water while Jane was enchanted with forests, they share a similar story of early childhood imagination sparked by experiences in the outdoors. The two also share their passion for using language, storytelling, and community to activate individual and collective action. As both imagine a better world for people, other animals, and the planet we share, they invite magic and meaning into the minds of those who want to get involved and are not yet sure how. In the episode, Jane and Ayana discuss the true and dynamic meaning of ‘Hope,’ and why we each have a role to play in the environmental and climate renaissance of today.

At the End of the Rainbow: Stay to the end of the episode to hear a rare archival clip of Jane on perseverance from the first National Geographic film to air on television in 1965, “Miss Goodall and the Wild Chimpanzees” narrated by Orson Welles.
