Wildlife Insights Honored for Data Design by Fast Company’s 2020 Innovation By Design Awards
Arlington, Va. (September 30, 2020) – Today, Wildlife Insights received Honorable Mention in the Data Design category of Fast Company’s 2020 Innovation By Design Awards. Wildlife Insights, led by Conservation International and powered by Google’s artificial intelligence, was recognized for the design of its groundbreaking cloud platform, featuring 4.5 million camera trap records sourced from around the world and available in real-time with current species information.
Wildlife Insights was chosen from over 560 projects, products and services submitted from widely recognized companies and organizations including Spotify, Disney+ and others. The full list of honorees will appear in the October/November print issue of Fast Company, hitting store shelves on October 20th, 2020.
The Innovation By Design Awards recognize people, teams and companies solving problems through design. One of the most sought-after design awards in the industry, Innovation by Design is the only competition to honor creative work at the intersection of design, business, and innovation.

Wildlife Insights, which uses artificial intelligence technology developed by Google to enable researchers to identify species in a fraction of a second, dramatically speeds up the pace at which information can be processed and analyzed making it available to decision-makers in near real-time. It is the most diverse camera-trap database in the world and allows users to explore millions of camera-trap records, filtering data by species, country and year.
The platform is operated in partnership by Conservation International, Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, Wildlife Conservation Society, The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, World Wide Fund for Nature, the Zoological Society of London, Map of Life and Google.
