The HIV/AIDS pandemic is affecting every person, organization, and sector in Africa. This includes the natural resource sector, where impacts result from two main causes: loss of human capacity for natural resource management; and changes in the use of land and natural resources. In September 2002, theAfrica Biodiversity Collaborative Group (ABCG) jeld a workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, that was hosted by WWF’s Eastern Africa Regional Programme Office and was facilitated by the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka, Tanzania.

The workshop brought together members of the conservation and health sectors to discuss the impacts of HIV/AIDS on natural resource management. The proceedings describe these impacts andexplain how natural resources can help those affected by the disease.
