This joint presentation, featuring Bas Verhage and Cyril Pelissier, examined new steps in Protected Area Management in the Congo Basin—using case studies from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Gabon.
The case study from the DRC presented work being collaboratively undertaken by the ICCN (Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature – DRC national protected area authority) and WWF to assess the protected area system of the DRC and advance Aichi Target 11—helping to ensure the important role of protected areas in conserving biodiversity and critical services.
The case study from Gabon examined key findings from 10 years of PA management in Gabon and looked at the new challenges laying ahead, including within the realm of marine protected areas.
