The Salonga National Park: A conservation imperative and too big to fail

World Wildlife Fund

The sheer size of Salong National Park has facilitated the survival of the endemic bonobo and a remnant herd of forest elephants, but its vastness has also impeded its development, law enforcement, and our understanding of its conservation value. Based on 20 years’ experience in the Watsi Kengo Sector, Dr. Reinartz presents an overview of the challenges and areas of progress, and its importance to bonobo conservation and forest elephant survival in DRC.
