There are strong links between biodiversity conservation and human health, the health of domestic animals, wildlife health and ecosystem health. Over the past year, several global programmatic, research and advocacy efforts have advanced the understanding and adoption of strategies to reduce barriers to family planning as an effective conservation strategy, which are critical for Africa.

The panel discussed recent activities related to global Population, Health and Environment (PHE) with implications for Africa’s biodiversity.

Panelists include representatives from the Margaret Pyke Trust and the IUCN task force on barriers to family planning as a conservation issue, Conservation Measures Partnership (CMP) PHE Learning Initiative leaders, and ABCG PHE task members Conservation International, with World Wildlife Fund-US and the Jane Goodall Institute.

By linking conservation and family planning activities, communities and policymakers can mitigate impacts and provide compensation for biodiversity loss to deliver positive conservation outcomes.
