A major oversight of most climate change assessments to date is the inadequate consideration of indirect impacts on biodiversity. The Global Change Impacts working group is documenting how human communities are being impacted by changes in weather and climate, how they are responding, and how their responses impact biodiversity.

Working across 21 sites in Africa, ABCG members are interviewing rural communities to gather this data, analyse it, and develop solutions that help communities adapt to a changing climate while minimising impacts to biodiversity. Members presented the preliminary findings from this study and provided a brief overview of the next steps.
