The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day celebration is, “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”
“The year 2022 is pivotal for achieving gender equality in the context of climate change and environmental and disaster risk reduction, which are some of the greatest global challenges of the twenty-first century,” UN News.
On this IWD and every day, the members of the Africa Biodiversity Collaborative Group (ABCG) join our colleagues and friends in applauding and lauding the critical role women play in climate change mitigation, land, and natural resource management and universally to their contributions to sustainable development and society in general. Unfortunately, even today, the contribution of women and other underrepresented and marginalized people are often and unfairly unrecognized or undervalued and require the voices of stake and stick holders alike, to bring about the required change to enable and empower justice, equality, and equity. In its determination to support and service the greater inclusion of women and other marginalized peoples, ABCG employs and promotes participatory approaches to facilitate improved access, availability and acceptability for all people and women and disadvantaged communities in particular.
